Press Report

Hollingworth Juniors hosted their annual football tournament over the weekend of 10th & 11th July at Longdendale Language Community College, Hollingworth. Over the two days, despite the occasional cloud burst, over seventy four junior teams from the local area, East & North Manchester & Stockport competed for trophies in age groups ranging from Under 6's to Under 10's.

A large amount of effort had been put in by club officials over the preceeding weeks involving organising and marking pitches, ensuring facilities for spectators, ordering tournament programmes ( superbly produced by Dave Fletcher of Ad Pads printers), arranging car parks and generally making sure that over the weekend, everything went well.

Some quality football was on display over the two days, which attracted talent scouts from several Barclays Premiership clubs including Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton and Blackburn. The scouts were very impressed at some of the budding Beckhams and Rooney's on display and invitations were made to a number of players from various participating teams, to attend club trials and making several dreams come true.

As well as the football, spectators and players were treated to refreshment stalls, bouncy castle and a visit from Fire Brigade officers who handed out smoke alarms, offered free fire safety advice and made arrangements to visit the homes of spectators to carry out fire safety checks. The attendance of Fire Brigade officers sorely tested some of the attending mums as to whether to watch the football or not!

A large number of attending teams commented upon how well the tournament had been organised and the good spirit in which the football was played and officiated. All winning teams and runners up for clubs from Under 7's upwards, won trophies and medals for their efforts. All Under 6's players from all teams taking part, were delighted to win participation medals to reflect an enjoyable day. In the end, all players and teams agreed that the weekend was a roaring success and that football was declared the winner.
