SESSION DETAILS FOR MONDAY 22ND FEBRUARY
Nice to be back - and the weather was OK once you started running round. I had a long-standing friend of many years on a visit, who now lives in Germany. He watches lots of German football, and also remains a fanatical Bradford City fan. He was full of praise for what the Hurricanes were doing, so much so, that despite being a decent footballer himself, he was too frightened to join in, in case he showed himself up !! ROY`S SESSION (Hollingworth coach) - "RAGING HURRICANES" Started with penalties, pass and shoot, volleys and "beat the defender". When the match came, Roy`s team consisted of Owen (who scored 3 goals), Marcus (2 goals), James (2 goals), and John (not on the score sheet). They won 7-5 against Phil`s team, with Gaz (1 goal), Tony (2 goals - how`s that possible - 2 on-target shots in one evening ?), and Joe (yet another 2 goals from him), and Robert (not on the scoresheet - but "nearly scored three times"). Very competetive with good passing and positional skills. "MELLOW HURRICANES" We did our warm-up lap to start with, then penalties, followed by a game of "Robin Hood" (retrieving balls from a coned square, back to one`s own home base, in 2 teams, in a race against each other. Then, because it was quite nippish, we went straight into a match. For the Reds were myself (1 goal selfishly volleyed straight past Adie), Roy in goal, who made a string of cracking saves, Rosie (1 goal), Leslie (2 goals), Helen (2 goals), Andrew (1 goal) , and Darren (2 goals). For the blues were Adie (in goal), yet another new junior star whose name I need to learn and add to the list, but who could play a bit, Michael, Roger (looking very mean and scoring twice), Peter (2 goals), and Carl (2 goals). The reds won 10 -9 , but if you count from above, I`ve not managed to remember every single goal. Apologies to any goalscorer who has been omitted. It was a good session, with the 3 groups present on the astroturf pitch each now having their own supply of balls (different colours for ease of identification), and their own cones. How could we improve these sessions ? One suggestion was, that when we return to warm sunny weather in July, that one of the onlookers takes responsibility for preparing a barbeque at pitchside. But I don`t think Leanne (who is responsible for the facility) will go for that one. Bye for now till next week Cheers Peter Basterfield |
