Match reports 2006/2007 season

Denton Town Tournament

It was a good day’s football with HJFC playing 5 games, winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 1. Unfortunately, the organisers decided not to play Quarter or Semi Finals, the top 2 in the table played in a final. If there had been Quarter and Semi Finals, we were confident that we could reach the Final. One notable event that day was Sam Whiteman, who scored 4 goals, reaching a total of 102 goals over 2 seasons, well done Sam.

HJFC “A” v Chapel Town
A great day for playing football, the weather was good and HJFC “A” were up for the game. It was obvious that Chapel Town had not played much football and, at half time, HJFC were 3 – 0 to the good. The 2nd half saw HJFC play some good 1 touch football. A pleasing result with HJFC having the biggest win of the season so far, the final score was HJFC 7 Chapel Town 0. The scorers were J McGrath 1, J Megram 2, J Kennedy 1, E Fletcher 1 and Sam Whiteman 2.

Rosehill “A” v HJFC “A”
This was a good game with both teams having chance after chance to score. The half time score was 0 – 0 HJFC made 2 substitutions and found themselves 2 – 0 down within as many minutes and this was the final score.

Rosehill “B” v HJFC “B”
Rosehill played some good football and were soon 1-0 up. HJFC were then chasing the game. Pressure from Cam Dickson chasing a back pass to the keeper, resulted in a Rosehill defender lobbing his own keeper. Half time was 1 – 1. The second half saw a better performance from HJFC and they score a second after 5 minutes. Cam Dickson scoring a good team goal.
Final score 1 -2.

The Edward Struttman Memorial Cup

HJFC v Haughton Rangers
This game was organised last season when both teams were in the same league. The lads from HJFC knew how important it was to win this game as it was in memory of the father of one their team mates who had tragically died last year. Credit should be given to both sides for the observation of the minute’s silence, which was emotional, not only for the players but also the parents who knew Edward Struttman. Haughton Rangers were flying high in their own league with both “A” and “B” teams being at the top of their leagues, scoring 30 plus goals and conceding less than 5 in 7 games. As for HJFC, both teams are doing well and scoring plenty themselves; so the game was going to be a close one or so we thought.

The “B” Teams played first. Dave Carson got HJFC off to a flying start, soon followed by Fergal Hanna, Cam Dickson and Joe Miller. By half time, HJFC were 4 goals to the good. The second half saw the same attitude to the game and another 4 goals for HJFC. Haughton were shell shocked by conceding 8 goals in one game. Final score 8 – 0. With Haughton Rangers not having conceded a goal in 7 games, HJFC were in for a good game. Straight from the kick off, HJFC went about the Haughton Rover’s penalty area with pace and power and were unlucky not score in the first minute. It did not take long for the deadlock to be broken, with Jak Megram scoring a corker. Haughton Rangers replied with a couple of minutes. Chance after chance went begging for HJFC. At half time the score was still level. A Steve Kennedy team talk fired up the lads and within a couple of minutes Eliott Fletcher and Jack Kennedy had fired HJFC into a 3 – 1 lead. This was soon followed by Jak Megram making it 4 – 1. HJFC were looking good with Nile Murray and Jordan McGrath keeping the shop shut at the back. Sam Whiteman was tackling hard in his new role of central midfield, winning tackles and getting the ball out wide to Jack Kennedy and Eliott Fletcher who in turn fed the ball to the pacey Jak Megram up front, who was adapting to his new role as lone striker. The game ended 6 – 1. This meant that the aggregate score for the 2 games was 14-1 and a great win for H
