Hollingworth should have been out of sight by the interval. Instead they had only a two goal lead. Kieran Balmer getting on the end of a Ross Forrester pass for the first. Then he was upended in the box. Callum Milligan sending the keeper the wrong way from the resulting penalty. The second half was very scrappy, and both teams made some poor tackles. Hollingworth went further ahead when Liam Nolan pass put Matty Holmes in acres of space, he lofted the ball over the keeper and tapped into an empty net. Hollingworth soon made it four. Callum Milligan from his own half eased past three High lane players. He played a 1-2 with Matty Holmes, he then shot giving the keeper no chance. The whole ground applauded a contender for goal of the season. With just minutes to go High lane scored a wind assisted goal that gave Brad Rawlinson in goal no chance. They then scored with the last kick of the game to give the score an unreal look about it. 23/10/11 Cheadle & Gatley 1 Hollingworth jnrs 1 As i was at the swamp to watch city batter the rags in the demolition derby. No report. Liam Nolan scored in the last minute to get a deserved point. 06/11/11 Reddish Phoenix 1 Hollingworth 2 A goal four minutes from time by Danny Ashton kept the hollies a point behind the leaders. Callum Milligan had scored a great free kick towards the end of the first half to give Hollingworth a deserved lead. Hollingworth then had most of the play in the second half without really testing the phoenix keeper. Then with 15 minutes left the home side scored a wonderful goal from 25 yards out that gave Brad Rawlinson no chance at all. After a few near misses it was left to Ashton to curl the ball home after Milligan had beat three defenders to send the travelling fans wild with delight. 13/11/11 Inter Macc 3 Hollingworth 8 A convincing win for the u16s. The hollies were out of the blocks early as Matty Holmes nodded home James Thompson's cross after just two minutes. Holmes then had a shot come back off the post into the keepers hands. Joe Elliott thundered number two in on the half hour. Inter got a goal back when the defence went to sleep thinking job done. Hollingworth upped the tempo and when Danny Ashton was uphended in the box, captain Callum Milligan sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot. Minutes after the break Holmes scored again, lobbing over the advancing keeper. The hollies were playing some fantastic football and it was no surprise when Ross Forrester scored from outside the box. The inter boys never gave up and pulled another goal back. Connor Simpson then played a 1-2 with Elliott and crossed for Kieran Balmer to lash the ball home. Danny Ashton not to be out done then scored the goal of the game, he picked the ball up inside his own half, beat two defenders and then rifled home from 25 yards. The defence switched off again and inter scored a third goal. James Thompson capped a fine display with the eighth goal, curling a left foot shot into the bottom corner. The inter macc manager said the were taught a footballing lesson and said Hollingworth were just to good for his team. Kind words indeed. Hollingworth 0 Hillgate Boys 3 League cup The under 16s went out of the league cup against Hillgate boys from the second division. We created a host of chances especially in the second half, but were thwarted by a resolute defence and a keeper in top form. Hollingworth 10 Richmond Rovers Norbury 1 A convincing win for the u16s, as they won at a canter. Goals from George Vose(2), Callum Milligan, Ross Forrester, Ashley Hampson, Joe Elliott.Connor Simpson,Matty Holmes and a couple including one with his right foot from Liam Nolan(a collectors item indeed!) The win could have been even more but for the Norbury keeper making some great saves. Ross Forrester was man of the match. |
