The core of the Under 8's team have been together since July 2011, with others joining us since that time, giving us a squad, currently, of 18 players. The emphasis is on having fun and enjoying both the game and each others company, whilst learning not only football, but valuable life skills: How to be good winners and losers, how to respect our opponents and the officials, how to encourage each other and be positive to each other. Understanding that effort and hard work is good and is rewarded with results. These are just a few of the principles that as coaches we look to promote and teach and it's great to see our Under 8's applying these both on and off the field and growing in confidence and ability. The children often see each other outside of the football scenario and attend each others birthday parties and meet for other social activities. We also have various other arranged activities such as end of season and Christmas parties which build social skills and team spirit. There are also times when parents and coaches get together for social events and parties etc.
This is a great group of players and parents who work together to encourage and develop our under 8's, who have fun together and are seeing great results on and off the pitch!
New players are welcome to come and join us in training and may, in time, gain a place in the league team. Seriously though - Mike has looked after the team since their first match and has bought a sense of passion and commitement to both training and the matches. Having played for the club himself at an earlier age, and still being involved in competitive football at the ripe old age of 26, he loves the game and wants to see the players progress as individuals and as a team. The training programme that he has introduced is starting to bear fruit in the matches and the team is enjoying some great results. In victory or defeat, he always has something positive to say after a match and will happily sit and tell anybody who is prepared to listen that he has the greatest team ever!!
He is assisted by Neal Hollick and Andy Williamson. All three coaches are FA level one qualified and have sons playing for the team. |
