Team News

4th February 2012

It was semi-final day for the Reds and an early start – too early for some! The sun was shining and we all hoped that the game would be over before the forcasted snow started to fall.

Hollingworth Reds B  6 – 0  Mossley Juniors
Man of the Match:  Ellis Parker

Hollingworth started the game brightly with Ellis making some great runs down the wing and it wasn’t long before a shot from Mason gave Hollingworth an early lead. James soon made it 2-0 with a great shot into the top corner of the net. All the pressure was from Hollingworth and they passed well working as a team. A great throw in from Ellis early in the second half was driven into the net by Callum and from then on the goals kept coming with the Mossley goalkeeper beginning to look deflated. Ellis managed to score two goals within the space of a few minutes, carbon copies of each- long range shots from the wing. The final goal came from James in the dying seconds taking a chance whilst the goal keeper was licking his wounds. With the B team giving Hollingworth a 6-0 advantage we all hoped the A team would retain the lead.

Hollingworth Reds A  1 – 1  Mossley Juniors
Man of the Match:  Oliver Webb Morris

The Mossley A team were a much stronger side and the game started at a fast pace. Hollingworth put on some early pressure and a shot from Jake Morton went wide. However, Mossley managed to break quickly on a couple of occasions and Aaron had to make a couple of great saves and Oliver Webb Morris making a crucial header off the goal line. Joe Kempley and Ethan put together some great passes in mid field and Hollingworth were always first to the ball. Unfortunately Mossley did manage to break and scrambled the ball into our net to take the lead.  The lead didn’t last long though and Ethan made a strong run down the wing with a super pass into Jake who was gifted the goal to make it one all at half time.
The second half was end to end. Isaac made some crucial tackles in defence and Oliver, Joe and Ethan put together some great passes working hard to keep the Mossley strikers out of the game. Owen Bagshaw defended well and Aaron made a couple of great saves to keep the score line equal. In the dying minutes Jake Morton was brought down just outside the box winning a free kick which he took with typical Jake style. It brushed the cross bar but stayed out and the final score was 1- 1.

Hollingworth Reds made the Cup Final in style. Roll on 7th May. Hollingworth Reds vs Withington at Tameside Stadium. 9am Kick Off.

Hollingworth Blacks A  2 – 1 Delamere Rangers
Man of the Match Dominic

The snow had begun to fall as The Blacks started the match and with many of the players absent the team had to re-organise themselves. With Aidan happy to play both games in goal, Edward helped out by playing out and really enjoyed the opportunity to help his team mate Luca in defence.
Unfortunately the match reporter struggled with falling temperatures and the wet/ snowy conditions made it hard to make notes. The players fell into their roles well though and Adam and Dominic both proved to be a formidable team in the midfield with Dominic putting two great strikes into the back of the net. Delamere’s only goal was a scrambled goal into the net which Aidan could do nothing about.
Overall The Blacks deserved the win, working hard, passing well and taking their opportunities where they could.

Hollingworth Blacks B  1 – 0 Delamere Rangers
Man of the Match  Oliver Chant

The snow had really set in now making conditions very difficult. The B team battled hard and deserved the one nil win which came from a fantastic strike from Oliver Chant.
28th January 2012

Only the Reds had a match today meeting again the team they put out of the Cup last week, Delamere Rangers. Unlike last week the sun was shining and all boys were on great form and looking forward to getting another win.

Hollingworth Reds A  4 – 0  Delamere Rangers
Man of the Match:  Ethan

Hollingworth started the match well organised with Jake Morton up front and getting some great service from Joe Kempley in mid field. Ethan was providing a solid defence and making some great surging runs from the back. It wasn’t long before Hollingworth found the back of the net with a great strike from Oliver Web Morris. Spencer came on and Hollingworth continued to dominate putting some good passes together working out from the back with Ethan often setting up play. Hollingsworth’s confidence was on the up and an opportunity for a shot was converted into a great goal by Joe to make it 2 -0. Within a minute Oliver WM had made it 3 -0 scrambling the ball into the back of the Delamere net. The first half finished with another great run from Ethan crossing the ball across the face of the goal and Oliver was unlucky not to get his third.
The second half started as the first half finished with Hollingworth having all the play and Jake Morton soon making it 4-0. Jake, Joe and Spencer put some great passes together whilst Ellis remained strong at the back. However Delamere managed to make a few breaks and Aaron who had had nothing to do in the first half pulled off three great saves which were all one on one with the keeper. A clean sheet was kept though and the game ended  4- 0 to Hollingworth.

Hollingworth Reds B  3 - 3 Delamere Rangers
Man of the Match:  Jack Walton

The B team started brightly with James, Ellis and Cole all having early shots on goal. Delamere were working hard though and Tyler and Jack in goal had to provide a strong defence. It was Delamere who took the lead with a fantastic strike coming from nowhere which Jack could do nothing about. Hollingworth were not down for long though and Mason soon got on the end of a fantastic cross from Ellis Parker to make it 1 – 1 at half time.
The second half was fast paced. James and Harry put together some good passes and Cameron remained dogged in defence. It wasn’t long before Cole found his striking boots and made it 2-1. The lead didn’t last long though when Hollingworth failed to make a clearance from a Delamere corner and the ball somehow ended up in the net making it 2 -2. Action switched to the other end of the pitch and James scrambled a cross from Cole into the net to give Hollingworth the lead again. Not for long though as in the dying minutes Hollingworth again defended a corner poorly and Delamere equalised with the games finishing 3 all.

21.01.2012

This week was Cup Week and all Teams had to battle against a fierce cross wind and wet conditions. It was an early start for the Reds.

Hollingworth Reds A   0 -1   Delamere Rangers A

Man of the Match: Jake Morton.

Hollingworth started well and put some early pressure on the Delamere Goaf with Spencer and Jake putting some good passes together and Joe Kempley making a great pass from the back to put Jake through on goal only to be thwarted by the goal keeper. However against the run of play Delamere managed to get a one on one with the goal keeper and  Aaron was unable to keep the ball out of the net giving Delamere an early lead. Hollingworth resumed the pressure and Oliver Web Morris was unlucky not to score from a great throw from Joe. Ethan was solid at the back and the first half ended 1-0.
The Reds had to battle with the wind in the second half which made for difficult conditions. They continued to have much of the play with Delamere players spending most of this half on the ground! Both Jake and Oliver had chances to score but the goals couldn’t be found and the first game and with Holllingworth trailing 1-0.

Hollingworth Red B   3 -2   Delamere Rangers B

Man of the Match:  Jack  Walton

The B team new they need to win to keep the cup alive but conceded a very early goal before they had got into their stride. However they came make within minutes with an early pass from James to Cole who struck the ball well and put it over the keepers head and into the back of the net. It was one all. Cole soon had another chance but play switched quickly and Jack needed to make a save fro Hollingworth at the other end of the ground. The game was being played at a fast tempo and saves had to be made by both keepers. However Cole was brought down in the box and Hollingworth were awarded a penalty which Cole converted brilliantly to give the Reds a 2-1 lead. The lead didn’t last long though and a free kick was awarded to Delamere on the edge of the box from which they managed to score. Half time ended 2 all with Hollingworth still trailing in the tie.
The weather deteriorated in the second half with driving rain adding to the wild wind. The Reds continued to battle hard and had most of the play in this half. Ellis worked hard up and down the wing and managed to put Cole through again on goal who didn’t disappoint to take his hat trick putting the tie all level. James was unable put his shot past the goal keeper and a shot from Ellis went just wide. In the dying minutes Ellis made a fantastic clearance out of the Hollingworth goal area and the game end 3 – 2, and thus 3 all on aggregate with penalties having to be taken to decide the game.
It was all very tense as Hollingworth lost the toss but were elected to take the first shot. With his current goal scoring form Cole took the first penalty and belted it past the keeper to put Hollingworth in front.  Things continued to go well and Jack made a fantastic save to keep Hollingworth in the lead.  James was eager to take the second penalty as Team Captain and stuck the ball well putting it into the top corner of the net making it 2 – 0. Being the best of three Delamere now had to score to stay in the match but Jack was not going to be beaten today. He made another fantastic save and in doing so put a jubilant Hollingworth Red Team into the next round of the cup.

Hollingworth Blacks B   0 – 0 Withington

Man of the Match:  Tom

The Blacks started brightly and had much of the play. Tom, Jacob and Lucas all worked hard and passed well. The first half saw Tom with a number of goal scoring opportunities which unfortunately he was unable to convert and the Withington Keeper made a couple of saves. Oliver Chant provided a solid defence with Dan and Withington gave goalkeeper Edward little to do in the first half.
The sun came out for a few moments in the second half but not enough to brighten Hollingsworth’s hope of a goal. Oliver Chant made a good strike from outside of the box but it missed the top of the net by inches. Edward had make a crucial save  with his feet and for the last few minutes of the game Hollingworth went to sleep and were lucky to finish the game with a goalless draw.

Hollingworth Blacks A   0 – 1  Withington

Man of the Match:  Chloe

With the first game ending in a goalless draw the A Team just needed as win to stay in the cup. The first half was very evenly matched. Edward made an early save but towards the end of the half Adam had a few  great runs down the wing with some telling passes into Callum who had a couple of chances  on goal. The Withington defence was solid though and Hollingworth had little other opportunities
With it still nil nil in the second half Max moved up front. Chloe worked tirelessly on the wing battling with the wind and made a couple of intelligent passes into the goal area but Hollingworth were still unable to score. Dominic took a free kick from just inside the Hollingworth half and McKenzie was unlucky not to get on the end of it. Unfortunately against the run of play Withington  managed to get a strike on goal which Edward was unable to save and they took the lead. It was not going to be The Black’s day and although they had much of the play they couldn’t get through The Withington defence and even Max was unable to convert a last minute free kick. The game ended with victory for Withington and The Blacks going out of the cup.

14.01.2012

A beautiful crisp day saw some of the best football that has been played this seaon by all sides. There was nothing between them and all four goalkeepers kept us entertained with some excellent goalkeeping. Ellis made a fantastic return to goal keeping and new signing Jack looked like he’d always been in the team.

Hollingworth Blacks A   1 – 0  Hollingworth Reds A

Men of the Match Luca Dowling and Joe Kempley

The Blacks started well with some early pressure on the Reds goal but Ellis was enjoying his return to keeping and not to be beaten defending a couple of corners and a shot from Luca. However the Blacks kept up the pressure and Callum eventually managed to scramble the ball into the net to give the Blacks the lead. The Reds soon found their rhythm and Aidan had to make a couple of saves but was well beaten by a shot from Jake Morton that was only kept out of the net by the post. As usual Chloe made some great turns and runs down the wing and Ellis again made a great save just before half time.
Play in the second half started where it had finished with Elllis making another crucial save. Jake Morton made some good runs and Joe Kempley continued to provide a solid midfield with some great tackles and passing. The Blacks continued to pressurise and were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box which Kieran took but it went wide. Soon after Dominic made a great shot from just past the half way line and was unlucky not to score. The Reds continued to defend well with Isaac making some crucial tackles at the back and Jake and Spencer continuing to make runs. A last minute corner could not provide an equaliser.
Although The Blacks took the points it was a well fought match and it was only The Blacks solid and well organised defence that was the difference between the two teams.

Hollingworth Blacks B   0 –1   Hollingworth Reds  B

Men of the Match  Edward Pleasant and Cameron

In this game it was The Reds who started brightly putting The Blacks under some pressure with Edward having to make an early save. Ellis was proving to cause havoc on the wing and it wasn’t long before he managed to get on the end of a cross from James to put The Reds in front and only a save from Edward shortly afterwards prevented Cole from making it two nil. The game was being played at a fast pace and it was end to end stuff. Jacob Wood Doyle had a great shot saved by Jack on his debut and Cole soon after was putting Edward under pressure again. The Blacks took a great corner kick and Adams shot was just short of making it one all. Most of the pressure was on the Blacks goal and Dan and Tom worked hard in defence with Ellis running rampant. Edward saved further shots from Ellis and Cole.
The second half continued to see The Reds on the attack and a shot from Ellis hit the post. Oliver Chant had a couple of good runs and showed off his fancy footwork but even with great passing from Jacob and another shot from Adam in the midfield The Blacks were unable to score. Edward continued to have to defend shots from Mason and Cole and in the last minute he made a run the length of the pitch to try and help his team mates score from a last minute corner. To no avail, The Reds took the points, but a great game and lots of fun was had by all.

07.01.2012

With a much milder day than the last few weeks have been The Blacks were hoping to make a good start to the New Year

Hollingworth Blacks B 1 – 1 AFC Stanley B Man of the Match Jacob Wood Doyle

Hollingworth started well with early pressure and looking well organised with some great passing between Oliver Chant, Jacob and Owen Ward. The mid field worked hard to serve Oliver up front and his early shot was saved by a sound goal keeping.
Hollingworth had much of the play in the first half and when AFC managed to break Tom and Daniel Hollick provided a solid defence. Unfortunately the break over Xmas had been too relaxing for some and Edward forgot the pass back rule. With a free kick awarded to AFC he had to make a decent save to redeem himself! He had little else to do this half and it was AFC’s goal keeper who had to work hard to keep a clean sheet with mounting pressure from Hollingworth and shots from Jacob and Lucas been cleared off the lines.
Hollinsworth started the second half brightly and Lucas took an early cross from Jacob well to put The Reds deservedly in front. With Tom now up front Oliver, Jacob and Lucas worked well together and were unlucky not to score with AFC Stanley’s goal keeper making some great saves. However with the game in the dying moments The Reds took their eye off the ball and were unlucky to concede a goal in the last minute.

Hollingworth Blacks A 0 – 2 AFC Stanley A Man of the Match Kieran

The match started at a fast pace and AFC took an early lead on the break to go one nil in front. Aidan had to continue to work hard in goal for the first ten minutes. As the game settled down The Blacks put some good passing together and both Chloe and Callum had shots on goal. Although The Blacks had most of the possession it was AFC who looked more likely to score and Aidan made a fantastic save from a great corner cross. Dominic made some great play around the edge of the AFC box but his strike was held well by the goal keeper.
The second half started in much the same vein with Hollingworth having much of the possession but making little impact on goal. AFC made another break and took their goal well to go two in front. Hollingworth heads went down for a while but Luca made a couple of good passes out from the back with both Max and Kieran taking on the defence to make runs down the wing. Unfortunately the goals did not come for The Blacks today and AFC took the points.

Next week will be fraught as The Blacks vs The Reds. Lots of fun and games to be had!
